This Good Word, Episode 55: Parenthood with Jim and Lynne Jackson

Version 2Jim and Lynne Jackson have just written a fantastic book called Discipline That Connects With Your Child's Heart: Building Faith, Wisdom, & Character in the Messes of Daily Life. It's written from the crucible of their own personal experience parenting, as well as decades working with parents. They have conducted over 1,300 workshops for parents and privately coached another 1,000 parents since the early 1990's. They're the real deal, and I love their framework for parenting, which communicates four core messages that every kid needs to hear from their parents:

  1. You are safe with me.
  2. You are loved, no matter what.
  3. You are called and capable.
  4. You are responsible for your actions.

We had such a great conversation about those four messages, and so many other things. So take a listen - we had so much fun talking at their home in Chaska. And, I may or may not have been involved in a "role play" where I took my part as a fifteen year old very seriously. (Or click here to listen if the media player doesn't show up below).
