This Good Word, Episode 37: New (ShowNotes)

Version 2There is a kind of new that is shiny and perfect, gleaming and flawless. You experience it anytime you open up a product from Apple, or when you buy a new car. It's exhilarating. Adrenaline flows through us at these moments of newness. But that kind of new breaks down and decays. It wears out. It ends up discarded and worn out. There is a different kind of new that grows newer over time. It gets better and better, richer and fuller and truer. It gets more real. It goes on and on and on.On today's podcast, I talked about the second kind of new. In it together, friends.Enjoy! My friend Nick created it, and I use it every day. Here's how Nick describes it:

The best music has a beat—a regular rhythm of sound and silence—and we are acutely aware when a song lacks a good beat. The stories that move us have action that rises and falls, taking us somewhere and back again. The ancient church calendar taps into this truth, and helps us to orient to a narrative larger than ourselves. In our community, we follow the church calendar of seasons and holidays and each week our pastors teach on one of the four passages found in the Revised Common Lectionary which follows the flow of the calendar. This site is designed to help you to extend that rhythm throughout the week by providing a simple way to access and engage with the texts. If you have questions, send us a note!
