This Good Word, Episode 24: Circles (ShowNotes)

circlesOn this episode, I talked about how I sometimes allow certain people and their words to have way too much power over me. I talked about the importance of understanding and naming the people that are actually important to us, whose words we need to let in. And I talked about the importance of understanding and naming those people whose words we shouldn't allow to go all the way in. I talked about understanding relationships as a series of concentric circles, with the most important people in your life in the center, while those less important are at the periphery. This isn't about exclusion and inclusion. It's about tending to your own soul well, and allowing the right people access to the most vulnerable parts of you. Enjoy. What's Blowing My Mind:The Brilliance. I saw them live last week, where they played most of their new EP, See the Love. It's a gorgeous album of peacemaking and imagining a more just world. I love it. I encourage you to consider purchasing this one - let's support the artists who we believe in and who are doing good work in the world!51mSJNECGyL._UY250_Americanah, by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. This novel is a love story, a picture of what life is like in America for immigrants from Africa. It's beautifully written, an elegant story of an outspoken Nigerian woman named Ifemelu who identifies herself as a "non-American Black" and confronts the racial structures she encounters in America and England. Get the ShowNotes delivered to your inbox automatically. Click here to subscribe to my blog, where you'll get my weekly post on Tuesday, along with the ShowNotes for This Good Word every Thursday.* * *I have put together an eight week preaching series based on my book, Beginnings, for FREE.
