This Good Word Episode 12: Tov (ShowNotes)

IMG_0599This is Rabbi Alan, the one who said being with me was like chocolate cake (in episode 7, grace). I love this man. This episode was so packed full of richness it was hard to know what to include in the show notes. We talked about the narrow place of Egypt, the verbness of salvation, the non-arrival of the promised land, and what the progressive, expansive, radical nature of these old Scriptures. We also touched on these questions (and so much more):When we see each other but don't see God, what happens? What does it mean to see to the shalom of your brother? What is the first usage of the word love and why is it so significant? And, of course, what is tov?Alan defines tov this way (from Genesis 1:11-12): the actualization of the potential for life, imbedded in creation by God, when creation calls it forth, containing seeds of future life within it. Again, there are so many nuggets in here I've lost count. I sincerely hope your mind is blown.Enjoy! What's Blowing My Mind:Midrash: Reading the Bible With Question Marks, by Sandy Eisenberg-Sasso. This book is a very accessible companion to the thoughts presented here by Rabbi Alan.
