It paralyzes us, knocks us down, and highjacks us. It enslaves us to small living.
What is fear and why does it have such a grip on us, whether we want to admit it or not? Is there a way to transform fear so that we aren’t always fighting or running away?
Let’s talk about it!
Amygdala Hijack: “The immediate and overwhelming emotional response out of proportion to the stimulus because it has triggered a more significant emotional threat.” – Daniel Goleman, Emotional Intelligence
Fear: “The real or imagined threat that something precious is going to be taken away from you.”
Acts 17:28: “28 ‘For in him we live and move and have our being.’[a] As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring.” (NIV)
Coming Clean: A Story of Faith, by Seth Haines. This is such a beautifully written book. “I suppose we’re all drunk on something,” he writes, and I believe him. This book is raw and honest and calls me to wake up to all of the ways I hide in my many addictions, all of the ways I insist on getting my own way, and all of the ways I numb my pain with anything that will. Thank you, Seth, for this gift.
